The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) issued a delivery order to Gulfstream Aerospace of Savannah, Georgia on October 6th, 2020 to purchase a new C-37B long range command and control aircraft. The order, worth approximately $66.6 million , also includes installation of Coast Guard-specific communications and security equipment. The purchase leveraged an existing Department of Defense (DoD) contract administered by the U.S. Air Force (USAF). The Coast Guard currently operates two C-37 long range command and control aircraft that provide command and control, required-use transport worldwide for Coast Guard and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) leadership. The C-37A is based upon Gulfstream V business jet and the C-37B is based upon Gulfstream 550. Both are capable of high-altitude, intercontinental flight with cruise operations from 41,000 to 51,000 feet. Features include enhanced weather radar, autopilot and an ultra-modern heads-up display for the pilot. Safety features include enhanced vision systems that allows increased visibility in poor weather conditions. The aircraft is also equipped with both commercial and military communications equipment to provide secure and non-secure voice and data capability. The new C-37B will ensure the Coast Guard retains a two-aircraft fleet in order to provide this deployed command and control capacity. Designed as a twin-engine business jet, the G550 was first flown in 2003. © Copyright 2003-2025 The Flying Mule, Inc.
